Happy Birthday

On 9/9/99 at 9:59, Jake was born.

I have to tell you the funniest part of that day was Brad. This was his first birth experience and he was ready. So he thought. Then as soon as it was time for Jake to come into the world, Brad started feeling a little faint.

He got a little white.

He started to sway a little bit.

Then he hit the floor.

He crawled on all fours to the bathroom.

He proceded to throw up very loudly, like a roaring giant losing his breakfast. The sound vibrated throughout the room.

My nurse asked if might need help. “NO!” I needed help. I was having a baby! Thankfully, with no help from Brad, Jacob Gunner Ewing was born. Happy and healthy.

Brad was a little green in his first pictures with Jake. We will never let him live it down. I must tell you that Brad did redeem himself with the birth of our third child – Jackson Paul. There was no puking.

The birthday party Jake is having in heaven doesn’t compare to the cake and balloons here. When God throws a party – it is a feast. I can’t wait to celebrate with Jesus and Jake.

Please remember today Romans 8:18 that “our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” IT WILL BE WORTH IT ONE DAY!! There will a celebration like no other! A feast! A party! Jesus is preparing a place for us at that table right now.

John 14:1-4 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

I am off to eat cupcakes in celebration of a very happy birthday!

  1. I know you guys know how very much you are loved. Yes, I’m sure all of our loved ones that are gone are having the very best birthday – we cannot even imagine.

  2. Oh my word, that was my husband’s biggest fear– passing out in the delivery room! By the time Christian (our third child) was born, David was able to look “down there” and watch the whole thing. It’s funny how some things throw a manly-man for a total loop!

I am looking forward to feasting with our boys one day. I can’t wait!!! What a feast- for our palates, for our eyes, for our ears… I can only imagine…
