9 Years

9 years ago today, Jake saw Jesus.

At Jake’s funeral my uncle said,

“Jake was running to meet his earthly father and instead met his heavenly father.”

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

What is our comfort today – our comfort is the promise that one day we will see Jesus just as Jake did. One day we will see each other again.

Brad wrote this song from the perspective of those in heaven. What they might say to us.

God is with us – we are not walking this journey alone. Ps. 55:22 (yes, from my bible reading this morning)

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will NEVER permit the righteous to be moved.” God has offered us many promises – one being that heaven is a reality for us and those we love. He also promises us that hurt and miss those in heaven that we are not alone. He is walking with us and he will sustain us.

9 years later: my comfort to you – HE will sustain you, if you let him.

Today, cast your burden on Him, He will sustain you, He won’t allow you to be moved.

UPDATE: I saw this verse this morning on facebook and it was just what I needed

‎”Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ”

UPDATE #2 – God is speaking to me minute by minute – He just keeps warming my troubled heart with His goodness – My Utmost For His Highest is just what I needed today.

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you . . . —John 14:27

There are times in our lives when our peace is based simply on our own ignorance. But when we are awakened to the realities of life, true inner peace is impossible unless it is received from Jesus. When our Lord speaks peace, He creates peace, because the words that He speaks are always “spirit, and they are life” ( John 6:63 ). Have I ever received what Jesus speaks? “. . . My peace I give to you. . .”— a peace that comes from looking into His face and fully understanding and receiving His quiet contentment.

Are you severely troubled right now? Are you afraid and confused by the waves and the turbulence God sovereignly allows to enter your life? Have you left no stone of your faith unturned, yet still not found any well of peace, joy, or comfort? Does your life seem completely barren to you? Then look up and receive the quiet contentment of the Lord Jesus. Reflecting His peace is proof that you are right with God, because you are exhibiting the freedom to turn your mind to Him. If you are not right with God, you can never turn your mind anywhere but on yourself. Allowing anything to hide the face of Jesus Christ from you either causes you to become troubled or gives you a false sense of security.

With regard to the problem that is pressing in on you right now, are you “looking unto Jesus” ( Hebrews 12:2 ) and receiving peace from Him? If so, He will be a gracious blessing of peace exhibited in and through you. But if you only try to worry your way out of the problem, you destroy His effectiveness in you, and you deserve whatever you get. We become troubled because we have not been taking Him into account. When a person confers with Jesus Christ, the confusion stops, because there is no confusion in Him. Lay everything out before Him, and when you are faced with difficulty, bereavement, and sorrow, listen to Him say, “Let not your heart be troubled . . .”John 14:27 ).

I understand what strength and faith it takes to face this day- please know our prayers are with you all…and know that you are ministering to others through your writing. Thank you, again- especially for the “Utmost” posting…definitely needed to hear that today.

    This day your family shows the triumphant glory of God as you demonstrate how God’s power has helped you live in spite of unthinkable pain.

    One day we will truly understand the ultimate triumph of God when we spend eternity in His kingdom free from death and pain.

    Jake must be so proud of you all. I can’t wait to see your family reunited.

    P.S. That surely is a great verse. I wonder if my dad and Jake have had a chance to catch up yet.

    1. Oops. I read this in my Reader and it included a reference to my dad’s “faithfulness” verses, but it’s not on this post. Maybe I just needed to see them today.

    2. I saw that quote! God was so gracious and merciful yesterday – everytime I turned around He was speaking through something someone was saying. I am hoping Jake is with your dad right now – and granddaddy!

  6. Hi Kasey, forever trying to catch up on reading blogs, which I love doing, and stumbled on this one just today. Your post brought tears to my eyes, and I know there must be so many women (and others) out there receiving comfort from reading this post because of some difficulty they are going through, and because you are honest and have grown so much in the Lord through your own grief. I’m sorry I didn’t see this yesterday, but my heart and prayers go out to you still. God has built a strong and courageous woman in you!
