Do You Dance?

Our pastor is preaching on worship and used this verse about how David danced before the Lord. How like David I want to be and I am learning how important our worship is to Jesus. But something stood out to me. David’s wife curses him for his “foolishness.” David choose to publicly worship His Savior, to become undignified for His Maker.

14 David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might, 15 while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets. 20 When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, disrobing in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!”21 David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the LORD. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.” 23 And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death. 2 Sam.

How would we respond? How do we act when our husbands decide to make a stand or change our lifestyle to follow our Savior? Do we support him or criticize him?

I must say there have been many times when Brad was wanting to make some major life changes because He felt God was calling him to change and I mocked. Actually, I threw fits, made excuses, belittled him. I was David’s wife. Thankfully, due to Jesus’ sacrifice, I don’t receive the punishment she did. I could almost bet there are many men out there wanting to make some changes and more than a few wives mocking them into behaving.

If dancing before the Lord is a piece of worship, a small part of the puzzle, then how we live our lives is the missing piece. I must ask, when your husband is ready to make some changes or be “undignified” before His God, how do you react?

Do you mock or do you dance with him?
